Description
Come learn how your brain supports learning from early childhood through adulthood, and enjoy hands-on demonstration booths along with lively discussion with leading neuroscientists. This event is presented in coordination with the evening’s Musical Memories concert, a celebration of the healing powers of music, to allow you to enjoy an evening of education and performance at once.
Hear all about the latest research on learning and brain plasticity across the lifespan from University of Texas at Austin neuroscientists in the Center for Learning and Memory. Laura Rice of KUT radio will moderate a lively and informative conversation where you can get answers to your burning questions about the brain and gain new insights into brain health and the neuroscience of memory.
Come and be part of a community that values lifelong learning and discover how you can continue to grow and thrive at any age.

Audrey Brumback is an assistant professor of neurology and pediatric neuroscience at UT Austin. Brumback is interested in understanding how abnormal neuronal electrophysiology contributes to the cognitive symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.

Laura Colgin is a professor of neuroscience in the Center for Learning and Memory at UT Austin. Colgin studies how brain rhythms, electrical waves generated by synchronized activity across neurons, are involved in cognitive processing and affect mnemonic operations and behavior.

Michael Drew is a professor of neuroscience at UT and currently serves as the associate dean for undergraduate education in the College of Natural Sciences. Drew wants to understand the functional significance of the birth of new neurons in the hippocampus of the adult brain.

Jarrod Lewis-Peacock is an associate professor of neuroscience and psychology in the Center for Learning and Memory and director of UT’s Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program. His research explores the interplay between attention, learning and memory in healthy adult brains.

Alison Preston is a professor of neuroscience in the Center for Learning and Memory and vice provost for faculty development at UT Austin. Preston uses behavioral and brain-imaging techniques to explore how we form new memories and remember past experiences, and how our memory of the past influences what we learn in the present.

Laura Rice is the managing producer of “The Texas Standard,” the nationally renowned daily news show of Texas on KUT. She will moderate the neuroscience panel discussion for the evening.
